A rare and highly collectible special edition, this 2008 Aston Martin DB9 Le Mans was created to commemorate Aston Martin’s famous GT1 class victory at the 2007 Le Mans 24 Hours with the legendary DBR9 race car.
Finished in the striking and model-exclusive Sarthe Silver coachwork, this example is one of the 69 DB9 LM cars produced worldwide, and notably one of only 15 right-hand drive examples built. According to the vendor, only 13 examples are believed to remain worldwide today. The history behind the Aston Martin Le Mans Edition makes this model particularly special and highly collectible. Originally, Aston Martin intended to produce a limited run of just 128 cars, each priced at £128,000. However, when dealers were informed of the proposed pricing, many felt the cars would be difficult to sell at that level. As a result, production was significantly reduced, with only 69 examples ultimately built before manufacture ceased.
Adding to the rarity, the majority of the cars produced were left-hand drive models supplied to overseas Aston Martin dealers, making right-hand drive UK examples especially desirable today. The numbered plaque within the car reflects its place within the total production run of just 69 cars, further underlining the exclusivity of this exceptional limited-edition Aston Martin.
Based on the 2008 model year DB9 Coupe and equipped with the desirable Touchtronic 2 automatic transmission and Sports Pack as standard, the DB9 LM featured a host of bespoke enhancements unique to the edition. These included 19-inch diamond-turned alloy wheels finished in Sarthe Silver, Magnum Silver mesh grilles, bright front grille, red brake calipers, clear rear lenses and the distinctive red enamel Le Mans circuit badge mounted to the boot lid. All Le Mans came with later 2009 atobox sports suspension.
Inside, the cabin is beautifully trimmed in Obsidian Black leather with contrasting course red stitching and perforated seat inserts. Further bespoke Le Mans details include the embroidered Le Mans circuit map on the centre armrest, ‘Tertre Rouge’ facia and door cappings, red waterfall dash detailing and numbered sill plaques, all combining to create one of the most distinctive DB9 interiors produced.
First registered in the UK on 1st June 2008, this example shows approximately 34,000 miles from new and has been in current ownership for 3 years.
Although supplied without stamped service history, the car accompanies extensive files documenting works carried out and detailed information relating to the vehicle, including a comprehensive step-by-step record of work completed up to its arrival at the auction house.
Importantly, the vendor advises that the engine was rebuilt at approximately 34,000 miles, after which the vehicle was placed into storage and has remained off the road SORN for around four years. The vehicle’s currently in non-running condition is believed to be related to a suspected fuel relay issue/fuel blockage. The fuel system primes correctly on ignition and the fuel pump initially operates before subsequently cutting out and failing to continue running. Further reports are that when fuel is introduced directly into the engine, the car will run, supporting the belief that the issue is fuel delivery related rather than mechanical in nature. The engine does fire with an easy start.
All electrics work apart from the 2 LCD info screens and a new battery has been fitted. Also comes with the Aston Martin Umbrella in the boot. The clear original lights have both been refurbished with new bulbs.
The vehicle is also recorded as a Category N insurance loss in 2020, indicating non-structural damage only - it was driven through a ford, water was to deep so water got in the engine. This is why the engine rebuild was done and engine harness renewed.
A hugely rare and visually stunning limited-edition Aston Martin with exceptional rarity credentials, this DB9 Le Mans offers an exciting opportunity for collectors, enthusiasts or specialists looking to recommission and enjoy one of the marque’s most desirable modern GT cars.
