1962 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 MKII

Older restoration still showing well, long term - Eastern WA ownership, 4-speed w/ overdrive and rare removable hard top included with extra set of wire wheels.

The Austin Healey 3000 is one of the most sought after and recognizable British sports cars of the 1960s. The BT7 2+2 model was launched in 1960 as the MKI and then the MKII was introduced in 61 until mid 62. These were the last of the true “Big Healey” Roadsters with the 131 hp, 2.9-liter inline 6-cylinder motor, triple SU carburetors, front disk brakes, side curtains, and a removable frame and vinyl soft top. Known for their robust powertrain and lightweight bodies, the Healey was a favorite of club racers and weekend tourers, the cars won many European rallies and are still popular today in classic car motoring events. The United States was the largest market for these beautiful machines and to many represent the best era of British automotive manufacturing.

This 1962 Healey 3000 BT7 MK II is believed to retain its original engine # 29ERUH571 and has lived most of its life in the Eastern Washington. The original colors were Old English White over Red interior but the car was redone in Red over Black at some point prior to the current owner’s stewardship when he acquired the car back in February of 1985 and had many wonderful drives to club outings to various car events with his wife over the years. In 1991 the car was taken off the road for restoration by Tate’s Auto Body Repair of Yakima, WA, a well-known British restoration shop at the time. Much metal work and rust repairs were carried out and the car was disassembled and taken down to bare metal and then repainted in Colorado Red. Chrome wheels were added as well as a luggage rack, driving lamps, and chrome windshield surround, that all help add charm to the Healey.

New upholstery (black leather seats w/ red piping) side panels, and carpets were fitted in 1999. Over the years much maintenance and service work has been performed to keep the Healey in top mechanical shape including, rebuilding the shocks, brakes, gauges, and heater box. Replacing the clutch, water pump, t-stat, generator, wheel bearings, bushings, battery, etc has also been addressed during current ownership over the last 20 years. An upgraded aluminum radiator and fan was added in 2015 to improve cooling. Recently upon taking the Healey into our care, the oil has been changed, oil pan cleaned out and resealed, fuel system flushed, clutch master cylinder replaced, brake fluid flushed, new rear wheel cylinders and axle seals fitted, and a new windshield + seal has been installed and a complete detailing has been performed to ready the car for sale.

The car still shows very well with very nice paint and chrome, the soft top and fame are in good shape, side curtains have age related wear and need new seals. The 4-speed gearbox shifts up in all gears great but 2nd gear is worn when downshifting, the overdrive is in good working condition. The tires show date codes of 2010 and do not show any signs of dry rot, there is plenty of tread depth and they roll down the road just fine but the next owner should consider replacing them if you are to drive the car any sort of long distance or highway usage do to age. The car also has an optional removable hard top but it is needing restoration.

Included with the sale are 4 original painted steel wheels, jack, spare tire, original owner’s hand book, new car cover, full tonneau cover, binder of receipts going back to 1985 and restoration photos. This is a great opportunity to acquire a well-loved final year, BT7 Healey 3000 roadster that will keep you grinning ear to ear as you wind through the gears, opening up the glorious “big six” engine and finding those long, curvy backroads to explore this spring and summer.
