This 1987 Bugatti Concourse is an exceptionally rare De La Chapelle-built tribute to the legendary Bugatti Type 55, combining timeless prewar styling with modern engineering and drivability. Produced during the brief period when De La Chapelle was authorized to use the Bugatti name, this example boasts its original Bugatti badging and plaque acknowledging the approval of the marque's owners at the time. Built around licensed BMW mechanical components, including a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, and fully independent suspension; the car offers a unique ownership experience that captures the elegance and presence of one of the world's most celebrated sports cars.
Accompanied by extensive documentation-including importation records, testing paperwork, manuals, correspondence, and original sales literature. The photos attached are a fraction of the original documentation and messages back and forth from the builder, importer, and assembler of this car. Everything was saved.
While dry weight is under 2,000 pounds, this is not a small car, with the wheelbase being 110 inches. It has disk brakes on the front wheels, drums on the rear and the body sits on a modern steel ladder chassis with tubular extensions. Unequal length wish bones and anti-roll bars, with telescopic shock absorbers, form the front and rear suspensions.
