There's little to say about the Jaguar E-Type that hasn't already been said. A regular on the top step of any enthusiast's 'Best Looking Cars' list (including one Enzo Ferrari) its distinctive profile, aerodynamics and timeless lines ensured that its place in motoring history was written the moment it was unveiled at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. Beneath Malcom Sayer's effortlessly elegant design, however, was pure Jaguar racing heritage. The Coventry constructor channelled its engineering expertise into the E-Type, learned from its C- and D-Types, both cars having won the 24 hours of Le Mans. While the E-Type didn't see the same success, its production pedigree was significantly greater, with more than 70,000 rolling out of the factory. More than half a century later, the E-Type continues to turn heads, melt hearts, and weaken knees.
This Series I E-Type Fixedhead Coupe is an early 4.2 litre, original UK right hand drive example. Finished in fabulous Opalescent Green, and complemented by an achingly beautiful tan leather interior, it was the 18th right hand drive coupe of 1,583 manufactured, confirmed by its Jaguar Heritage Certificate, supplied with the car. With a mere five owners in 62 years, it presents in very good order throughout, and we are advised it drives well with no known faults. Overall, this is a fabulous example of Jaguar's most famous model, in arguably its best specification and a terrific colour combination. While many Series I cars have arguably been over-restored in recent years - with hefty estimates reflecting this - this car offers the opportunity to own a well-maintained, low-ownership E-Type at a very sensible estimate, and would complement any collection - and of course, every collection needs an E-Type.
