The Jaguar XJS Convertible, introduced in 1988, was far more than simply a coupe with its roof removed. While the earlier XJS Cabriolet had signalled Jaguar's return to open-top motoring, the Convertible was the marque's first fully open four-seat grand tourer of the modern era. Extensive engineering modifications were incorporated to maintain structural rigidity, including a strengthened subframe designed to minimise scuttle shake and preserve the refinement expected of a Jaguar. Power came from Jaguar's renowned 5.3-litre V12 engine, producing approximately 295bhp in its later fuel-injected form and paired with a smooth automatic transmission. With a top speed of around 150mph and an abundance of torque, the XJS delivered performance in the traditional grand touring mould—rapid, refined and supremely capable. Increasingly recognised as one of Jaguar's most significant modern classics, the XJS Convertible enjoys a growing following among enthusiasts.

First registered in Hong Kong on 19th January 1993, this impressive example was acquired there by the current vendor in 2016. Shortly thereafter, the car was entrusted to renowned Jaguar specialists KWE Ltd for an extensive programme of refurbishment and enhancement. The work undertaken was comprehensive and included a paint refresh in elegant Regency Red, installation of KWE Stage 1 suspension, and extensive renewal and upgrading of the braking and steering systems. The V12 engine received a major service, while both the automatic transmission and differential were professionally rebuilt. Significant attention was also given to the electrical systems, fuel system and air conditioning. The interior and exterior were similarly refreshed, with the hood renewed, carpets and leather upholstery refurbished or replaced as required, and the wood veneer restored. A stainless-steel exhaust system was also fitted. In excess of £83,000 has been invested in the car under the current ownership, resulting in an XJS Convertible that presents to an exceptional standard and offers the reassurance of substantial mechanical recommissioning. Combining elegant styling, effortless V12 performance and extensive specialist expenditure, this is a particularly desirable example, offered at what appears to be a highly realistic estimate.
