An ‘S’ for ‘Super’ iteration of the Porsche front-engined design that began with the 924, Porsche introduced the 944 S in late 1986 as a more advanced version of its popular 944. The model featured a 2.5-litre DOHC 16-valve engine producing 190bhp, along with chassis upgrades inspired by the 944 Turbo; improved suspension, larger anti-roll bars and stronger components. Reported to have been capable of 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds at launch and with a 144mph top speed, the 944 S sold 12,936 units worldwide, with the majority delivered to the USA. Scarce to find in the UK in 2026!
You’ll find this 1988 example has previously come from an impressive long-term ownership of some 35 years - from 1990 to 2025, when our vendor purchased it. ‘F937NYV’ has a total of two recorded former keepers, with its first UK registration handled by Charles Follett (City) Ltd, a London-based Porsche dealer on 11th August 1988 (delivered on 12th August 1988), and subsequently the ‘S’ made its way to the North of England, finding a home with a lady in Leeds for its first two years. Finished in Porsche’s Satin Black Metallic (LY9Y) with a 5-speed manual transmission, Stuttgart certainly don’t skimp on specification, with an interior that included electric seat adjustment of the complementing Beige Porsche script sports seats, power mirrors, power windows and the large removable sunroof panel. The book pack is still present and has the Driver’s Manual included, and still retains the Porsche Cars Great Britain Limited voucher for the ‘first free service’. That first service carried-out and stamped by Charles Follett (City) Ltd., Whitechapel Road, London on 8th September 1988 at 1,023 miles. The book pack contains a Pocket Guide to Porsche Ownership, a Porsche Service contact book, a Hamilton & Palmer (car security) ‘Guarantee’ chit dated 12th August 1988 and the Porsche Guarantee and Maintenance book, essentially the service record.
There is plenty of evidence of care and maintenance over the decades, a running theme with this example - we’re not sure you can say that about many. Early 1990s service certificates from C.C. Specialist Cars (Porsche Specialist) / AUTOTEC Kirkbymoorside are on file with other service book records showing a ‘camshaft belt check’ was carried out on 9th October 1990 at 21,834 by C.C. Specialist Cars (Porsche Specialist) Kirkbymoorside.
The Guarantee and Maintenance book contains 10 service stamps entered at:
11, 721 on 2nd June 1989 with Charles Follett Ltd, St John’s Wood

27,303 on 27th November 1991 with C.C. Specialist Cars (Porsche Specialist) Kirkbymoorside

35,721 on 22nd November 1993 with Autotec Porsche Specialists, Kirkbymoorside
39,117 on 8th November 1994 with Autotec Porsche Specialists, Kirkbymoorside

50,447 on 5th June 1989 with Charles Follett Ltd, St John’s Wood
60,083 on 9th March 2000 with a cambelt change with Autotec Porsche Specialists, Kirkbymoorside
It is worth noting that C.C. Specialist Cars and Autotech appear to be the same business.
On 22nd November 1993 at 35,721 Autotech Porsche Kirkbymoorisde replaced the timing belt. Bonnet struts were replaced in 2019 and tailgate struts on 27th April 2021. A second cambelt was fitted on 9th March 2000 at 60,083 miles by Autotech of Kirkbymoorside.
In April 2020, the ‘S’ was the subject of work to restore and conserve the body. A 29th April 2020 invoice on file, from Rodley Re-Finishers Vehicle Body Repair, Leeds, evidences a repair rust to the near-side and off-side sills, near-side and off-side wing bottoms, before stone-chip was applied to the repaired areas and paint with colour to match as appropriate. Rust preventative products have been applied to the near-side and off-side sills and wing bottoms and other touch-ins around the Porsche.
In current ownership, 22nd December 2025 works have seen SMH & Sons, restoration specialists, complete a comprehensive major service at 68,426 miles: ‘F937NYV’s’ third timing belt kit, balance belt kit, tensioners, 4x recon calipers fitted, a new thermostat, fresh antifreeze and oil and fluids, 4x wheels balanced, the fitting of the refurbished factory ATS telefonfelgen - telephone-dial alloy wheels along with 4x reconditioned calipers, at a cost of £1,243.20. As part of the work the telephone-dial alloy wheels have benefitted from genuine Porsche centre caps. In the manner this example has been accustomed to being kept, some £1,000 was spent with Design 911 UK in December 2025 with a total in excess of £3,000 spent on a full recommission following a period in storage.
Sitting on period correct Firestone Firehawk tyres - a nod to keeping it as original as possible - the vendor reports that everything is working, even down to the remote boot release and rear compartment courtesy light, which is unheard of on these. ‘F937NYV’ is being offered with the original sunroof bag and a quantity of paperwork that includes old MOT certificates and invoices for MOT work in the early 2000s, with the current MOT on file extending to 2nd December 2026. An opportunity to experience a handsome and rarely seen 944 in ‘S’ specification, from previous long-term ownership and having had much attention paid to its maintenance and preservation.
