Jaguar XJS-C
The Jaguar XJS-C (Convertible) appeared in 1983 as the first open variant of the XJ-S. The model was designed as a two-seater in targa style with fixed B-pillars and removable roof panels, and was eventually offered with Jaguar's legendary 5.3-liter V12 engine. The model formed an essential bridge to the fully open convertible models.
• The bridge model: Because the original XJ-S coupe from 1975 was built with strict rollover safety requirements in mind, Jaguar lacked an open car.
The XJS-C was introduced in 1983 as a technical compromise, featuring a rigid central targa bar and removable roof panels alongside folding rear side windows.
• V12 integration: Initially launched with an inline six-cylinder engine, the V12 XJS-C was introduced in 1985 to meet the demand for high-
performance open-top vehicles.
• Engine specifications: The 5.3-liter V12 (often paired with a three-speed GM TH400 automatic) produced up to 295 hp in later versions, giving it an acceleration
from 0-100 km/h in approximately 6.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
• Rare production: The XJS-C V12 was known as very expensive and was somewhat overshadowed by the full four-seater convertible introduced in 1988. Consequently,
only about 5,000 XJS-C models were produced in total, in both the V12 and six-cylinder variants.
The first XJ-SC was produced on June 28, 1982, and the last on January 26, 1988. A total of 5,013 XJ-SC Convertibles were built. These cars were distinguished by having a Targa/Convertible body with removable Targa panels over the two-seat passenger compartment, similar to T-tops, plus a fabric rear section including the rear window; there was an optional hardtop for the rear section. Approximately 1,598 right-hand drive cars and 3,416 left-hand drive cars were built. Although there are a small number of XJ-SC cars with a rear seat conversion, Jaguar Cars produced only one such car, which was built specifically for Princess Diana. The rear roof section of this car was fully fixed and could not be removed. This conversion was later performed on owners' cars by various aftermarket companies, without factory approval.
The XJS-C we are pleased to offer you here was delivered new in December 1986 in sunny Pasadena, California, and registered for the first time in 1987. An extensive file from that period is available, including invoices, inspections, etc., as well as the original folder with the maintenance and instruction manuals. The car was imported into the Netherlands in 2018 and has had one owner since then. It has been serviced by us since 2020. The mileage is verifiable and remarkably low, with only 44,660 miles driven. The overall condition is exceptionally good and original, and the car comes complete with the full soft top including hood cover, as well as the rare hardtop for the rear of the roof. Recently fitted with new tires all around, the car was also driven regularly. A fresh color combination of silver-grey with blue leather, it is completely ready for the next owner.
