The Porsche 991 is the seventh generation Porsche 911. 991 is the internal production number Porsche uses for the car that was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 15, 2011, as a replacement for the Porsche 997. The styling had changed significantly, yet there is a clear design link to the previous generations of the 911. The first photos of the 991 were released by Porsche on August 23, 2011.[1] This seventh generation of the 911 was delivered to customers from 2012 through 2019. The first generation of the 991 is also referred to as 991.1. The design update (from model year 2016) is referred to as generation 991.2. Description The direct-injection 3.8-liter Boxer engine from the previous model - the 997 S - was retained in the 991 S, with an increase in power to 400 hp. A new engine was developed for the "regular" Carrera: a 3,4-liter that delivers 350 hp. The car has a start/stop system and electromechanical power steering.
