Fiat and Abarth are often mentioned in the same breath. And that is logical: shortly after its founding in 1949, Abarth quickly focused on racing. A special kit with a matching exhaust was designed for the Fiat Topolino, among others. And it was precisely with the production of exhausts that Abarth became big: brands like Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, and Maserati became customers of the exhausts Abarth produced. When Fiat introduced the 600, Abarth was quick to install a more powerful engine in the car. The goal: to create an affordable small sports car. Many racing successes were achieved with this car, which was called the Abarth 750. After the introduction of the Fiat 500, an Abarth version was therefore inevitable. And it was precisely with this small car that the brand became big. Racing remained an important part of its activities. The brand frequently participated in the famous Mille Miglia, and usually with considerable success. In 1961, Abarth even competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and won in its class. But as was often the case in the past, more time was spent racing than winning.
