A very cool Pininfarina Spider 2000 in the ‘Volumex’ specification, built in 1985 – one of the very last Spiders ever made! The bodywork is beautifully painted in metallic blue, which creates a stylish combination with the beige interior. The bodywork is otherwise solid and in good condition, and the same can be said of the interior. As a nice extra, this example came with a neat tonneau cover and a chrome roof rack. When Fiat ceased production of the highly successful 124 Sport Spider in the early 1980s, the Italian design house Pininfarina decided to continue producing this model itself. Pininfarina was responsible for the design of this Spider, which had been on the market since 1967. Pininfarina had never before produced cars as a manufacturer in its own right, and would not do so again after this model. In the case of this particular example, we should therefore not actually refer to it as a Fiat Spider, but rather as the Pininfarina Spider Europe, or Azzurra for those destined for the American market. Before Pininfarina began production, numerous minor and a few major modifications were carried out to bring the Spider fully up to date. In 1983, Pininfarina launched a special edition of the Spider Europa Volumex, tuned by Abarth and fitted with a Roots supercharger. With its 135 pk (99 kW) from a two-litre engine, the Volumex was more powerful than its ‘eternal rival’, the Alfa Romeo Spider. Whilst the other Fiat 124 Sport Spiders reached top speeds of up to 175 km/h, the Volumex hit 190 km/h. This example features all the Volumex characteristics: wheels, supercharger, pressure gauge, rev counter and original Volumex engine.
