- Desirable SE iteration of the Esprit Turbo
- Previous long-term ownership
- Long MOT
The Lotus Esprit Turbo SE was said to produce 264bhp and reach 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and hit a 160mph top speed. The SE benefitted from a 2.2 litre (2174cc) charge-cooled turbo engine and was offered between 1989 and 1993 with some 1,608 SEs built. Key features also pointing to the SE specification were the walnut dashboard, a sunroof, leather seemingly everywhere and an intriguing quirk, an ice warning lamp on the dash, all present here. First registered in the UK on 8th June 1989, this Lotus Esprit Turbo in SE variant is finished in Black with a Cream leather interior.
Having been in previous ownership for approximately 19 years, the vendor describes the car's overall appearance as ‘fair’, with the paintwork displaying a significant amount of lacquer peel and various imperfections throughout, while the interior shows signs of age and weathering. Despite its cosmetic shortcomings, the car appears to perform well mechanically. It was driven to the unit by the vendor and has been run without issue on site.
The SE has had four former recorded keepers and was originally supplied by Mann Egerton & Co in 1989. The current registered keeper has had the vehicle in his name for less than a month, as it is being offered for sale following the passing of the previous owner. There is some service history accompanying the car, including the original book pack and service book, which contains four stamped service entries.
Recent maintenance includes the fitment of a new battery in 2026, together with new ignition coils, spark plugs and ignition leads fitted in April 2026. In 2024, new brake cables were installed. An invoice from S.J. Sportscars totalling £676.50 is present from 2022. In 2021, the sunroof was rebuilt by S.J. Sportscars, while in 2020 the same specialist carried out approximately £4,000 worth of maintenance work. Earlier records show a further £4,000 of maintenance undertaken by Beacon Hill Garage in 2015.
Surely, an opportunity to get into Lotus Esprit ownership and improve its desirability and value with a restorative refresh. It is being offered with the current V5C Registration Document.
