Chassis No. 118341785
Bruce Meyers invented the dune buggy in 1964, wrapping Volkswagen Beetle mechanicals in a hand-formed fiberglass body he called the Manx. That fun-loving beach car has since been carried into the modern era, with the Meyers Manx factory once again building exceptional bespoke creations, remastered from the ground up on period-correct foundations.
Among Manx's newest offerings is the series of Remastered Classic Resorters. One of four commissioned by Meyers Manx in partnership with The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, three of the four will serve as sprightly, vintage VIP shuttles between the two events this August while this fourth example is consigned directly to Broad Arrow Auctions, with proceeds from its sale benefiting charity.
Each of the four is finished in a unique specification inspired by traditional national racing colors, with a fully bespoke, custom-tailored interior designed to complement its exterior hue. This particular build was conceived as ''what-if'' a Resorter was designed to complement a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing.
Like the period originals, it is based on a fully restored, vintage 1968 Volkswagen Beetle chassis, remastered from the ground up by Meyers Manx. Its custom silver metallic paint was chosen to match the legendary Silver Arrows, and its polished brightwork adds to its vintage Mercedes-inspired appeal. Power comes from a high-performance 1,914-cc dual-carbureted air-cooled flat-four with a stainless Sidewinder exhaust finished in Cerakote Tungsten Grey. The engine's ample power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission upgraded with a Vintage Speed shifter. It is additionally equipped with the King Off-Road suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and LED lighting throughout, while custom forged wheels in the style of Rudge knock-offs complete the exterior presentation.
The cabin was built to the same high standard as the mechanical specification. A wood-rimmed Motolita steering wheel and matching shift knob anchor the driver's environment, ahead of a Classic VW center gauge cluster. Seating combines blue plaid cloth inserts, in the tradition of the 300 SL Gullwing Coupe, with Dani Florida leather bolsters and Royal Blue German square-weave seatbacks, complemented by matching square-weave floor mat and tunnel cover set. A full-length Sunbrella Heritage Slate Bimini top provides weather protection while preserving the Resorter's open-air character.
Recently remastered by Meyers Manx, this modern, yet retro Silver Arrow will make its debut at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, taking its place among the racing legends that inspired its livery. This example is offered with its comprehensive build spec sheet documenting a total investment of $155,040 in options and coachwork, representing one of the most thoroughly specified Remasters to leave the modern Meyers Manx facility.
