The original 1966 Spider shape was the result of a number of Pininfarina design studies, concept cars showing traits incorporated in the final production design. The first one was the Alfa Romeo Superflow, a concept car built on the chassis of a retired 6C 3000 CM racing car and first shown at the 1956 Turin Motor Show, designed by Aldo Brovarone.
Alfa Romeo’s Series 4 Spider launched in 1990, with Bosch Motronic electronic fuel injection, full-width body-coloured plastic bumper fascias, an electric cooling fan, full-width rear taillights, on-board diagnostics an optional automatic transmission—while eliminating the much criticized front under-bumper and rear trunk-lid spoiler of previous series. Production of the original Spider design family ended in 1993. An all-new Alfa Spider was presented one year later.
First registered in the UK on 4th July 1997 and previously registered overseas, this right-hand drive example has been converted from left-hand drive, although no records are present with the car which might have identified who carried out the conversion. It is presented in Alfa Red with a Black leather interior and is described by the vendor as being in ‘very good condition’. A wonderful iconic Italian design, having reached the 1990s, the car came equipped with ABS, alloy wheels, leather trim, power-assisted steering, electric windows and electric seats.
The service history includes a book showing two services carried out during its time in Germany and a further three in the UK. Supporting paperwork confirms that Koni shock absorbers were fitted front and rear by Classic Alfa in 2023, along with Eibach springs and a big brake conversion. The car also features GTA 7x15 alloy wheels, and the file includes an invoice for a fluid change in 2022, together with a number of invoices for more recent maintenance and servicing carried out in the UK.
