The DB4 Series IV was produced between 1961 and 1962 and represented an important step toward the later DB5. Aston Martin revised a number of details, including the lower-profile hood scoop, the rear lights, and the newly designed grille. Small changes on paper, perhaps, but together they gave the car a more refined and contemporary appearance.
This example is not merely a standard Series IV, but a Vantage SS. Toward the end of DB4 production, Aston Martin built a small number of cars equipped with the more powerful Special Series engine. Among other improvements, it featured three SU carburetors, revised cylinder heads, larger valves, a higher compression ratio, and an oil cooler. The result was a significant increase in power.
The Vantage SS was also fitted with the instrumentation from the DB4 GT, featuring individual gauges for the various functions. Only 45 examples of the DB4 Vantage SS Series IV were produced. Of those, just 14 left the factory with left-hand drive. That makes it considerably rarer than a DB5.
This Aston Martin was delivered new by Garage Mirabeau in Paris to Seigneur Suetet of Lyon. It then spent the greater part of its life in Lyon and the surrounding region. Narrow roads, rolling countryside, and vineyards strike us as the ultimate landscape for a car of this caliber.
The original color combination of this DB4 is Aegean Blue with White Gold. The deep blue accentuates the long hood and flowing body lines, while the light-colored interior provides exactly the right degree of contrast. Elegant, classic, and timeless. This Aston Martin is presented in exceptionally beautiful condition. The exterior, interior, and mechanical components all reflect the standard one may rightly expect from an Aston Martin of this stature. With its superb paintwork, exceptionally straight body, and beautifully running engine, this is an example in excellent condition.
