Launched in 1980 as the Escort moved to front-wheel drive, the XR3 quickly became a major success for Ford. The fuel-injected XR3i arrived in 1982 with upgrades to the engine, gearbox and suspension, bringing it closer to the Golf GTI in performance and handling.

The Mk4 facelift followed in 1986, adding more refined styling and a more comfortable drive. From September 1989 to September 1990, EFI models gained Ford’s EEC-IV fuel injection and engine management, along with CVH engine revisions, alloy wheels, a revised rear wing and a deeper front bumper.

Offered here is a 1989 iteration of the XR3i that was first registered in the UK on 1st April 2008 after previously being registered overseas. Finished in White with a Grey and Black interior it has the Recaro part-leather seats. With the current keeper, an XR3i Club member having looked after it for the last four years, since 2022. It is described by the vendor as being ‘fair to average’ in its general appearance.

The hood and interior are both said to be in ‘excellent condition’ for its age, while the car is also fitted with the XR3i 5-spoke alloy wheels. A new roof is said to have been fitted approximately three years ago, and further expenditure followed the recent MOT, with repair work carried out after the test. The paintwork and bodywork will require some attention, however, there are some small areas with bubbling and paint peel.

The maintenance file includes MOT certificates and invoices for work carried out, making it worthy of consideration for some further improvement.
