A stunning and rare BMW 2002 “Luxus” in a very original condition. It was owned by its last owner for no less than 22 years and was originally delivered new in the Netherlands. It has been excellently maintained, with no corners cut. The Luxus specification was available at an additional cost of 986 guilders, which was a lot of money at the time. Together with the metallic paint, alloy wheels, green-tinted glass and the Blaupunkt radio, this 2002 was no bargain. That’s what makes this 02 particularly special, though, and you hardly ever come across one.
The exterior was repainted in 2013 in the original colour ‘Polaris’ and professionally restored using original BMW parts. The door catches, window seals and trim strips have also been replaced. Subsequently, all hollow sections were treated using the Mike Sanders anti-rust method. You won’t find anything better in this field. So all the notorious weak spots have been carefully addressed and treated. And what a stunning colour – timelessly beautiful! The iconic original BMW alloy wheels are, of course, the icing on the cake. The invoices for the restoration are available, and the work has been carried out to an excellent standard. After such a long period, there are naturally a few signs of wear, as the owner has used his 2002 for exactly what it was designed for: driving!
The interior is in a very fine original condition. The blue velour is still strikingly beautiful, with a touch of patina, of course. The seats have been reupholstered and are comfortable. The dashboard is 100% original and everything works as it should, apart from the clock. The Blaupunkt radio also works flawlessly and is fitted with a smart chrome-plated aerial. The centre console houses an immobiliser with an indicator light.
The 2002 has been excellently maintained, primarily by a genuine 02 specialist. Invoices totalling approximately €10,200 are available for maintenance and repairs. The engine was overhauled in the past, but there is no invoice for this. A brief summary of work carried out in recent years: new clutch with pressure plate, new Hardy disc, complete overhaul of the brakes, major service in accordance with BMW standards, new battery, reconditioned alternator and starter motor, new tyres, etc. That is why this 2002 drives so well; it handles and changes gear like a true BMW. The gearbox and differential are nice and quiet, and the engine has plenty of torque. But the BMW ‘neue klasse’ needs no introduction; it was a compact, sporty mid-range car that saved BMW. Striking design and German quality. Never cheap, but certainly worth the money. It became a success, and ‘freude am fahren’ was the motto.
