Shipped from the Aston Martin factory on
30 December 1958 to the
Canadian importer DB Cars, this DB2/4 MkIII was delivered to
Mr. Philip Rosengarten of Westmount, Canada.
The original
factory build sheet confirms
matching engine and chassis numbers and
original colours – “Pacific Blue” exterior with beige Connolly leather interior – as well as optional
servo-assisted brakes and
chrome wire wheels.
In
1988, the car passed to
J. Allan Shantz of Toronto, who remained its owner until 2011.
Imported into the UK in
June 2011, it was offered at the
Coys Blenheim Palace Auction and sold for
£85,000 to
Michael Ramon Erwich, owner of
Spellbound Cars, an Aston Martin specialist in Great Westwood.
At that time, the car was in
excellent original condition, with a
perfect aluminium body.
Spellbound Cars began a
comprehensive restoration, preserving all original specifications.
In
February 2017, the project was sold to an
Italian collector for
£200,000, with the chassis and panels already prepared for painting in the original
Pacific Blue.
In Italy, the
Ercolani body shop (Faenza) completed the paintwork, while the
Fiani workshop (Rome) rebuilt the engine with new liners and pistons, and oversaw the full mechanical reassembly.
The
interior was reupholstered in original Connolly leather (VM3099), supplied directly by Connolly and accompanied by a
certificate of authenticity.
Certified by the
ASI on 9 November 2020 and
registered in Italy on 10 March 2021, the car has covered
only 420 miles since completion.
Presented in
as-new condition, it is
eligible for the major historic events.
Historical and Technical Significance
Only
551 examples of the
DB2/4 MkIII were produced, marking the final evolution of the DB2 series and introducing the now-iconic
Aston Martin grille design.
Powered by the
2.9-litre DBA inline-six with twin SU carburettors, producing
162 bhp, the DB2/4 MkIII could reach
nearly 200 km/h, combining elegance and performance at the highest level.
This example, with
complete provenance, matching numbers, factory documentation, and
exceptional restoration quality, represents one of the
finest MkIII examples in existence.
