The Lister Jaguar “Knobbly” is one of the most iconic competition cars of the late 1950s.
Designed by Brian Lister to challenge Ferrari, Maserati and Aston Martin on the world’s main racing circuits, it owes its nickname to the distinctive hand-formed aluminium body, with its muscular, irregular shapes created for maximum lightness and efficiency.
Fewer than
20 original cars were built in 1958, making the model one of the rarest and most desirable British sports-racers of its era.
Official Lister Continuation cars faithfully follow the original factory specifications, preserving the authenticity and competitive spirit of the period machines.
DOCUMENTED HISTORY OF THE CAR
The earliest years of the car are not fully recorded, a common occurrence for racing machines of the 1950s.
However, oral history indicates that until
1968 the car remained in
Manchester, UK.
1968–1983 – Newcastle (UK)
Owned by
Mark Barkley.
1983–1985 – Dublin (Ireland)
The car reportedly moved to Dublin.
New Zealand – First verified records
The first confirmed documents appear when the car is imported to
New Zealand, where it is registered as
NB 6830.
Although the owner’s name is unknown, the tax stickers on the windscreen confirm that the
Motor Vehicle Licence was paid for the years
1987, 1989 and 1990.
From 1990 the car begins its journey back towards Europe.
1990 – Import to the United States (California)
Imported by the
Fine Car Store of San Diego.
From
1996 it is used in historic competition and receives the
VSCDA Technical Passport, recording all races completed through 1998.
1998–2000 – Santa Fe (New Mexico)
Owned by
Thomas W. Mittler.
2000–2005 – Mishakawa (Indiana)
Owned by
John Norton, who sells it in 2005 to
Alexander Lienau of Munich, Germany.
2005–2006 – Germany
Lienau obtains the
FIA (DMSB) fiche for competition in
TSRC6 – Period E, and repaints the car
black with a silver stripe to match his Chevron racing team colours.
From 2006 – Italy
Purchased by a well-known collector from
Brescia, who secures the
ACI-CSAI Technical Passport and enters the car in numerous races, hillclimbs and historic events until
2020, when it becomes part of
Cristiano Luzzago’s private collection.
