California State ID No. N0330568
Chassis No. SPS0016
A faithful recreation of the small-block Cobras that debuted in 1962, the Superformance MKII Slab Side reproduces the clean, unadorned lines of the early 289 cars, forgoing the hood scoop, dimpled trunk lid, and Le Mans fuel filler of the competition-oriented FIA variant. Built under agreement with Carroll Shelby Licensing to exceptionally authentic detail, these cars employ a Tojeiro-style round-tube chassis with transverse leaf-spring suspension front and rear, closely mirroring the layout of the original CSX 2000-series cars. Production of the narrow-body MKII has remained limited, and small-block examples finished to this specification are seldom encountered.
Chassis number SPS0016 is finished in British Racing Green over black leather bucket seats, an understated combination well suited to the early Cobra's restrained character. The steel-reinforced fiberglass bodywork carries chrome bumperettes with tube guards, fender vents, wind wings, and polished stainless brightwork, while chrome 15-inch knock-off wire wheels are mounted with Firestone Precision Touring tires. The cabin is fitted with a wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel, Stewart-Warner instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and 8,000-rpm tachometer, an AutoMeter analog clock, DJ Safety latch-and-link belts, a cabin heater, and a locking glovebox.
Power is sourced from a 302 cu-in Ford V8 topped with an Edelbrock intake manifold, a four-barrel carburetor, MSD ignition components, fitted Cobra-branded valve covers and ceramic-coated long-tube headers, with cooling handled by an aluminum radiator and dual electric fans. A Tremec TKO 600 five-speed manual transmission sends power to a ZF limited-slip independent rear differential, and Wilwood disc brakes with four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers provide the stopping power. Rack-and-pinion steering and the transverse leaf-spring suspension deliver the light, engaging character for which the small-block cars are renowned.
This example has been expertly sorted and prepared, and is properly registered by the California DMV. The six-digit odometer displays just 142 miles, reflecting minimal use since completion. Assembled to exceptionally authentic detail throughout, this British Racing Green MKII Slab Side offers the appearance and driving experience of an early 289 Cobra without the seven-figure cost of an original, rewarding its next owner every time the 302 fires to life.
