BMW/Alpina B10 V8 No. 001/1

Alpina's relationship with the E39-generation 5 Series began in March 1997, when the B10 V8 arrived as the marque's first car built on the new platform. This example was delivered new to Alpina as a standard BMW 540i, built to the post-facelift LCI specification before for a full conversion to their B10 V8 specification. The transformation included an Alpina 4.6-liter V8, built around a purpose-cast block, a new crankshaft, more aggressive camshafts, and hand-tuned ports, makes 347 hp and 480 Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels through a ZF five-speed automatic with the marque's signature steering wheel-mounted Switch-Tronic controls. Completing the specification is Alpina's upgraded suspension specification and their iconic graphics package to complete the comprehensive suite of upgrades.

A copy of its original Fahrzeugbrief shows that the car was originally registered to Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen in November 2000. It was specified in special-order Sonderlackierung Dunkelsaphirblau-metallic (Dark Sapphire Blue Metallic) over Sonderpolsterung cloth upholstery. This process was completed in December 2000 and confirmed by an accompanying Alpina Classic certificate listing the car as Production No. 001. As part of the work, Alpina retired the original BMW-issued chassis number and assigned the car its own identity, WAPBA46L11AF40001, a step reserved for the marque's most thorough conversions.

As optioned from new, this car was specified with Xenon headlights, Navigation Professional, Park Distance Control, rear side airbags, tire pressure control, a GSM car telephone with card reader, and a HiFi speaker system. A copy of its original Germany Fahrzeugbrief shows the car was first registered to Alpina in November 2000, where it was retained for several months and possibly used as a factory show car before its sale to a first private owner in June 2001. It then remained in Germany from there before it made its way to Sweden in 2003, where it has remained ever since, and now shows 179,219 kilometers at cataloging.

Few B10 V8s carry a story like this one. Certified as Alpina's own Production No. 001, retained by Alpina when new, and finished to a specification no other example shares, this car needs no comparison to stand out. It is simply one of one.
