When the XJ-S appeared in 1975, it was given an almost impossible task. It had to succeed the E-Type. A car that was already regarded as an icon by then, and whose lines were almost impossible to match. Jaguar therefore wisely chose not to create an updated version. The XJ-S became something entirely different.

The design was shaped in part by Malcolm Sayer, the same man who had also been involved in the aerodynamics of the E-Type, among others. That immediately explains why the XJS has such distinctive proportions. In particular, the characteristic rear buttresses give the car a silhouette that looks like absolutely nothing else.

During the 1990s, the XJS was developed and refined extensively. Jaguar improved both the styling and the engineering, and the later cars are now often regarded as the most complete versions of the model. This example dates from 1994 and therefore belongs to that mature, refined phase.

Under the hood lies the 4.0-liter inline-six. No V12, and in this car that is really no disadvantage at all. The six-cylinder suits the character of the XJS exceptionally well: smooth, quiet when required, and powerful enough to cover long distances with effortless ease. Because ultimately, that is what this Jaguar was built for. A journey of several hundred kilometers at the end of which you still feel perfectly happy to keep going.

And that brings us to perhaps the strongest feature of this particular example. The color. Rose Bronze. A shade that already looks special in photographs, but is even more striking in person. Depending on the light, the color seems to shift between bronze, copper, and a subtle rosy glow. It gives the XJS exactly the presence that suits the model: distinctive, but never loud. Combine that with the Magnolia leather interior and you have a color scheme that almost seems tailor-made for this body shape.

This Jaguar has had only three owners and has covered approximately 116,000 kilometers. A very respectable mileage for a car of this age. The bodywork is well cared for, the paint presents beautifully, and the interior makes a wonderful impression as well. The leather, wood trim, and typical Jaguar details create exactly that warm, luxurious atmosphere for which these cars are so well known.

This XJS was also maintained by both a Jaguar dealer and a specialist and comes with the complete file and accompanying books. The history even begins with the original sales brochure that the first owner received from the dealer at the time. And that documentation continues all the way through to an invoice from just two months ago.

That is exactly the kind of history you like to see with a Jaguar XJS. And perhaps that is precisely why this example makes such a strong impression. It is not simply an attractive car in a rare and beautiful color combination. The whole package is right. And especially that combination of Rose Bronze with Magnolia leather. There are plenty of XJSs in traditional dark colors. But this one does something different.

The XJS was never intended to be a second E-Type. It was meant to be something more mature. A Jaguar in which you could cover enormous distances quickly, comfortably, and in complete tranquility. And in this specification, it is easy to understand why that idea remains so appealing today. 116,000 kilometers. Only three owners. An almost complete history. And Rose Bronze. And you thought your XJS had the best color?
