Named for ''eXperimental Jaguar'' and its bold 220-mph target, the XJ220 came to life through a handful of passionate Jaguar engineers and designers who worked outside any official corporate structure, forming what would become known as the ''Saturday Club,'' quietly backed by nearly forty suppliers. Fresh off its 1988 Le Mans overall victory, Jaguar poured its endurance-racing expertise into the car, building it around a chassis and drivetrain drawn straight from its Group C racers, while staying true to the brand's refinement with sumptuous aluminum bodywork and Connolly leather. Powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 producing 534 horsepower and paired with a five-speed manual transmission, it reached a verified top speed of 217 mph, crowning the Jaguar XJ220 the world's fastest production car of its era.

Among a mere 277 examples produced, chassis number 220722 was delivered new to Jaguar Italia Spa, in Rome, Italy, on 14 January 1994, finished in Spa Silver over a Smoke Grey leather interior, a combination that suits it so well and highlights its lines to such an extent that Jaguar's marketing team used it in period communications.

Believed to have served as a show car early in its life, its mileage increased only marginally before it was acquired by its second owner, a Dutch collector. Arriving in Belgium in 2015 in the hands of its third owner with about 5,000 km on the odometer, the car benefited from a major service at considerable expense, including a fuel tank replacement, entrusted to the highly regarded local specialist Philippe Sebille of GPS Racing, with parts sourced from Don Law, the model's leading specialist. At the same time, it received a number of desirable upgrades, including a brake upgrade only fitted to later production cars from new. No expense was spared in keeping the car in peak condition, with invoices on file totaling approximately €70,000 in parts and work between 2015 and 2019.

Most recently, in 2025, the car benefited from a €25,000 major service, including fluids and filters, timing belts, clutch, and transmission service, carried out at 6,248 km on the odometer, once again with parts sourced from Don Law and performed by Philippe Sebille of GPS Racing, with a detailed invoice available on file.

Its tracked Belgian Car Pass history shows just 5,292 km on the odometer in 2015, confirming this low mileage alongside regular, sparing use, increasing by only around a hundred kilometers each year, and culminating in the low mileage of 6,284 km at the time of cataloging.

This matching-numbers example, complete with original engine and transmission, is accompanied by its factory book set in the original leather pouch, including the original warranty book, numerous invoices, as well as a Belgian technical inspection valid through 2027.
