Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Pininfarina, 1949 A rare opportunity to acquire one of the most coveted post-war Alfa Romeos: a 1949 6C 2500 Super Sport, featuring an elegant two-seater convertible body by Carrozzeria Pinin Farina. The Alfa tradition of building driver's cars par excellence was upheld by the 2500. Although the box-section chassis was no longer state-of-the-art, it featured fully independent suspension, generous brakes, responsive steering, and an unusually smooth, column-mounted gear lever. The engine was the latest version of Alfa's race-developed twin overhead camshaft inline six; the displacement of 2.443 cc was achieved by increasing the bore of the 2300. Maximum power ranged from 90 hp in the single-carburetor Sport version to 105 hp in the three-carburetor Super Sport. Considerably lighter than the sedan, the Super Sport could effortlessly exceed 100 mph. The short-wheelbase Super Sport chassis was produced until 1951; a total of 383 examples were built.
