When Mercedes-Benz unveiled the production SLR McLaren at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show, it revived a name made famous by the 1955 300 SLR racers. The SLR combines a carbon-fiber body, carbon-ceramic brakes, butterfly doors, and a rear airbrake. Power comes from an AMG-built 5,439-cc supercharged V8 rated at 626 PS, sent through the five-speed AMG Speedshift R automatic transmission.
This example completed its final quality inspection at McLaren Cars in Woking on 3 February 2005. It was delivered new on 14 February 2005 through Merbag Schlieren, just outside Zurich. The car was specified in Crystal Galaxite Black Metallic with a Black and Anthracite leather interior. It was additionally specified with “XL” seats for both driver and passenger, and 19-inch turbine-design wheels.
After a first Swiss owner who drove it regularly, the SLR passed to Vincent Crescia, a well-known Citroën restorer responsible for many DS sedans and convertibles at Garage du Lac. He acquired the car with roughly 40,000 kilometers and kept it for two years. Never fond of black cars, he had the SLR refinished in Arabian Grey circa 2012 to a very high standard.
Its stamped service book records servicing at the Maybach and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Service Center in Schlieren. At the time of cataloging, this SLR showed 49,000 kilometers. Its paint and wheels were described as excellent by the consigning Broad Arrow Group specialist. Swiss-delivered and refinished by a respected restorer, it offers the SLR's supercharged AMG thrust in a cabin made for long distances.
