Introduced in 1976, the Ford Fiesta marked an important new chapter for Ford, bringing the manufacturer into the increasingly competitive market for small, economical hatchbacks. Designed to offer compact dimensions, practical packaging and enjoyable road manners, the original Fiesta proved an immediate success and would go on to become one of the most recognisable names in British Motoring. Today, early MK1 examples are increasingly appreciated for their simplicity, distinctive styling and place in Ford’s history.

This 1978 Ford Fiesta 1117 HC-S is an appealing example of the early model, offering opportunity to acquire a classic Ford from the formative years of the Fiesta’s development. With just three former keepers recorded, the has spent a considerable part of its life away from the road, having reportedly been garaged for approximately 30 years before undergoing a comprehensive nut and bolt restoration around 2 years ago.

The restoration represents a significant chapter in the cars life, bringing this early Fiesta back to its full potential. Today, the vehicle presents in very good condition, with the bodywork reportedly remaining in solid condition since its restoration, as well as the paintwork retaining its shine.

Of particular interest is the survival of the interior, which is reportedly to be the original interior from new. In an era when many everyday cars were used until little remained of their original specification, the retention of its factory fitted interior as a noteworthy feature, preserving an important part of the cars character. Now the interior presents in very good condition, with all the headlining, seats etc presenting well and retaining its charm of a late 70s car.

With its early Mk1 identity, original interior, three former keepers and substantial restoration undertaken approximately two years ago, this 1978 Fiesta presents an interesting proposition for the classic Ford enthusiast. Its lengthy period in storage adds an intriguing element to its story, while its restoration offers the opportunity to appreciate a model that has become an increasingly familiar sight in the classic-car world but is now far less commonly encountered in its earliest form.

Unfortunately, there is limited accompanying paperwork with the vehicle, but there is a current V5 and a previous MOT certificate from 2025, where the vehicle passed with no advisories. Being a 1978 registered car, the vehicle is now registered as a historic vehicle and is MOT and tax exempt. The odometer is showing just under 52k miles, however due to the cars lack of paperwork, this can not be verified.
