Chassis No. ZFF78VHA1F0212062

The Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta arrived in 2014 as the open-top counterpart to the track focused 458 Speciale, limited to just 499 examples, and offered exclusively to established Ferrari clients. Though it was not known at the time, it marked the end of an era, representing the last naturally aspirated mid-engine V8 Ferrari, a lineage that gave way to turbocharging with the 488 that followed. Save for the Icona Series Daytona SP3, no mid-engine Ferrari since has been built around a naturally aspirated engine.

Behind the driver sits a 4.5-liter V8 producing 597 horsepower at a screaming 9,000 rpm, paired with 398 lb-ft of torque and a 14:1 compression ratio that contemporary reviewers found remarkable for a road car. Weight savings remained as central to the Aperta as they were to the Berlinetta, achieved through forged wheels, lightened bodywork, and a stripped interior that dispensed with the glovebox entirely. The result was a 1 minute and 23.5 second lap around the Fiorano test track, a time identical to its Berlinetta counterpart.

The Aperta also represents the final mid-engine V8 Ferrari to carry design work by Pininfarina, following the end of the two houses' 60-year partnership in 2013, before the factory brought its styling operation fully in-house. Combined with the theater of an open cabin and that 9,000-rpm wail reaching the eardrums unfiltered, the Aperta delivers an experience few modern Ferraris can match.

This spectacular Speciale A, chassis number 212062, was delivered new in July 2015 through Wide World of Cars in Spring Valley, New York, with $63,064 in factory options. Its digital window sticker shows the exterior accented by yellow brake calipers, carbon-fiber front flaps, carbon-fiber side nolders, and outer carbon-fiber B-post trim. Inside, the cabin was finished with full Cuoio Naturale leather upholstery, an Alcantara headliner, a colored upper dashboard, a leather lower tunnel, carbon-fiber air vents and inner sill trim, and Cavallini stitched into the headrests.

Initially titled in New Jersey, the car spent its first year with the original owner before passing in 2016 to its second keeper, who retained it for more than five years. Throughout that time, the CARFAX Vehicle History Report notes that it returned to its selling dealer for care a remarkable 20 times in total. The report also notes a 2019 incident involving front damage, though it states “airbags did not deploy.” A comprehensive service at 22,588 miles in May 2024 added new tires, front and rear brake pads, fresh brake fluid, a new serpentine belt, and an oil change. The third recorded owner acquired the Speciale A in late 2024 and registered it in Montana, and the car has since been entrusted to Ferrari of Newport Beach, which attended to the car in December 2025 and again the following month.

As the final naturally aspirated mid-engine V8 to leave Maranello and one of just 499 built, the 458 Speciale Aperta has secured its place among the most significant Ferraris of the modern era. Chassis 212062 elevates that status further, with its understated Grigio Ferro over Cuoio pairing, array of desirable options, and well-documented service history, it presents collectors with one of the most desirable and rare expressions of Ferrari's V8 berlinetta formula.
