You could probably spend an afternoon going through the history file that comes with this Cosworth. There is an enormous amount of paperwork with it, and after being with the same owner since 2000, it's nice to see so much of its life has stayed together.
It's a 1991 Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 finished in Moonstone Blue with black leather, which is about as good a combination as you could ask for on one of these. It presents nicely too, sitting on its Cosworth alloys and still looking largely as Ford intended rather than having been messed around with over the years.
The odometer is showing just over 22,000 miles, but it has been around the clock and we're certainly not trying to hide that. In fact, one of the best things about having so many old MOT certificates is that you can follow the mileage back through its life rather than relying on guesswork.
More recently, the owner has put some serious money back into it. We're told the figure is around £10,000 getting it right, and looking through the paperwork there has been plenty done.
Norris Motorsport has been involved with some of the latest work. A running issue was investigated properly rather than parts simply being thrown at it, with a new fuel pressure regulator, air charge sensor, Cometic inlet gasket, iridium plugs, injector O-rings and fresh fully synthetic oil and filter fitted. The inlet was stripped down and cleaned, a seized throttle body repaired and the TPS correctly set.
While they were in there, the breather system and block canister were removed and cleaned before being checked for leaks. The cam timing was also inspected and found to have previously been set using the wrong timing marks, so that was corrected too. It's exactly the sort of recent specialist attention you want to see documented on a Cosworth.
Condition-wise, it's simply a nice example. The Moonstone Blue still looks superb, the black leather suits it perfectly and there's something very appealing about seeing a Sapphire Cosworth that hasn't been turned into somebody's idea of what one should look like 35 years later.
Only two former keepers are recorded, and the current owner has now had it for around 26 years. Combine that with the stacks of old MOTs, invoices, recent specialist work and the money that's gone into it and you get a much better picture of this Cosworth than the mileage on the dashboard could ever give you.
Even the registration suits it; ‘H4 TJC’ is included in the sale.
For us, the history and ownership are what make this one. It's a Moonstone Blue 4x4 Cosworth that's spent most of its life in the same hands, has a file thick enough to tell its story properly and has had a considerable amount spent getting it to where it is today.
