We are so pleased to bring to market this amazing example. The legend of the Cobra was born when Texan Le Mans winner Carroll Shelby persuaded AC Cars to let him shoe-horn Ford's new lightweight 260ci V8 into the nose of the John Tojeiro-designed AC Ace. What a great decision that was for the history of cars and motorsport; 289 and 427-engined variants followed along with legendary success in motorsport. Fast forward twenty years or so, and the value of original examples had risen way beyond the reach of most enthusiasts, in some cases into the millions, creating a ready market for evocations. This has been helped by the recent film about Carroll Shelby and the other legend that was Ken Miles, what a man he was. First on the UK scene was the Dax of DJ Sportscars International, of which Tojeiro himself became a director in 1985. Many people would have you believe that the Dax was and still is the best Cobra evocation on the market, a personal choice but that’s the way the world works on these.
This Dax is in remarkable condition throughout; the paint is absolutely stunning, possibly the best we have seen on one of these, and shimmers beautifully in direct sunlight. Even the stripes are painted and are perfect. Fitted with a thunderous 5700cc Chevy LS1, which provides a wonderful soundtrack, that in itself is reason enough to buy this. Registered as a historic vehicle, with a V5/C believed to have been from a 1950 AC 2-litre saloon with the chassis number ‘EL1599’. The ‘Cobra’ has covered a mere 250 miles since its completion in 2005 and is ripe for plenty of enjoyment for the rest of your life, you would probably want to drive to heaven and use it there too. As to be expected with such a low mileage example, the overall condition is immaculate. It comes with its weather gear, an isolator to protect the battery and its spare keys. The finish is amazing and is mostly under the skin finished in stainless steel, and the interior is just the best place to sit. We have seen a few of these over the years and we think this is the best we have seen, both in build and paint. And that noise…
This is the perfect opportunity to acquire a beautifully built Dax Cobra, with plenty of fun to be had. A certain head turner, future prize winner and, most importantly, one that everyone would want to own. Take a look and see what you think, even if you don’t want to buy it, but because you are a petrol head. Release your inner Ken Miles and Carroll Shelby and own part of the legend.
