Bright red, grey check cloth, cross-spoke alloys and a black hood; ‘J859JKM’ is exactly how you picture an early 90s E30 Convertible, and this one has survived remarkably well.

Showing 89,000 miles, the BMW comes with a sizeable history file containing plenty of paperwork and a collection of old MOT certificates. More recently, the vendor has concentrated on the mechanical side, with the cylinder head attended to, a new radiator and water pump fitted, a new rear exhaust box and a recent service. The expenditure for this work is said to be around £1,600.

The condition is a big part of its appeal. The red bodywork presents very nicely, and the vendor reports it to be free from rust, while inside, the original grey check cloth has worn its years particularly well. It hasn’t been messed around with either, retaining the understated factory appearance that suits an E30 so well.

It’s an automatic, which works nicely with the more relaxed character of the Convertible, and the vendor tells us it runs and drives extremely well following the recent work. The electric operation of the hood isn’t currently working from the switch, although the hood itself raises and lowers manually without issue.

With plenty of paperwork, useful recent mechanical expenditure and an MOT running until March 2027, this is a very presentable E30 Convertible that still feels refreshingly original.
