“The E30 325i Sport is the sweet spot: compact, musical, beautifully balanced and just civilised enough to use without diluting the mischief.” Keith Adams, Motoring journalist
Well said Keith. The E30 3 series was the car that turned BMW into the must have brand that it is today. Launched in 1982 when we all carried a Filofax and the braver amongst us wore multi coloured braces; a time of excess and brash success, do you remember Yuppies? It was hard to buy a 3 series, the order books were full and the fax machines were overflowing.
The top of the range was, of course, the M3 but they were only available in left hand drive, a touch harsh for everyday use and somewhat expensive. Enter the 325i Sport, it was quick, refined, smooth and looked like a BTTC Touring car.
Thirty six years ago our 325i Sport was registered in Henley on Thames, just the right kind of address at that time. We don’t know much about the following years, there are quite a few bills and invoices in the file so we presume it was looked after. Fast forward to 2014 when our vendor took ownership. He spent some money over the next few years to get it roadworthy and safe, and then, as is all too common, it went back into the garage. Other cars, bikes and projects came along and the BMW stayed out of sight. If you track back on the MOT history you’ll see that it did not do a great deal of mileage over the next few years, in fact it has done barely 2,000 miles since 2017.
In 2026, a decision was made, and the E30 was booked into the well-respected restoration company, Trevor Farrington, based in Knutsford, Cheshire. Now, Trevor has been in business since 1986 and is well known for his attention to detail and for the quality of his work, often being described as a perfectionist, so safe to say that it was in the right hands.
We have on file several invoices from Trevor Farrington, on very high quality paper we might add, for over £15,500. Suffice to say the majority of the work done was underneath, is extensive and explained in great detail.
Now we think the body and interior could benefit from some cosmetic attention, whilst being perfectly acceptable and usable, it would seem a shame if the exterior did not match up to the work that has gone on underneath.
