• One of two original 22 SAS Mobility Troop Honda XR250s offered in this sale, this example is distinguished by its small red rear tool bag and its reported association with ‘Dinger’ - Lance Corporal Ian Robert 'Dinger' Pring MBE VR
• We understand that this particular motorcycle was used by ‘Dinger’, associated with the events subsequently recounted in Bravo Two Zero, to compete in the Natterjack Trial. Whilst its status as an original 22 SAS Mobility Troop motorcycle has been verified, interested parties should satisfy themselves regarding this specific rider association
• The XR250 was selected by 22 SAS for its combination of light weight, useful performance, straightforward starting and accessibility to riders of differing levels of experience
• The Regiment's first XR250s were acquired for operations following Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1990 and were adapted with long-range fuel tanks and rear racks before being painted in desert camouflage for deployment
• Their effectiveness led to the subsequent acquisition of a larger fleet of XR250s. This example has been verified as belonging to that later batch and retains the welded bosses on the rear swinging arm intended for the fitment of passenger footrests
• Following its eventual disposal by the military, the motorcycle was purchased at auction by a Hereford military contractor and taken to Lucas of Ross-on-Wye, described as the service agent responsible for the Regiment's Mobility Troop motorcycles at the time
• It received its first MOT as part of the civilian registration process but, we understand, has never subsequently been ridden in civilian use. Instead, it was placed directly into a private Collection where it has remained
• Supplied originally by Honda Stafford, this is an exceptionally unusual survivor with verified 22 SAS Mobility Troop provenance and, subject to the qualification above, a particularly interesting association with one of the Regiment's best-known Gulf War participants
