Stratton Motor Company are delighted to offer for sale this iconic piece of British motoring history: the 1988 Aston Martin V8 Vantage X-Pack Saloon.
The Series III Vantage, commonly known as the Oscar India and later associated with the X-Pack specification, represented a natural evolution of the William Towns-designed Aston Martin DBS. Widely regarded as one of Britains first supercars, the V8 Vantage offered extraordinary performance for its era, with a claimed top speed of 175mph and a 060mph time of just 5.3 seconds, making it a formidable rival to the Lamborghini Countach and Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer.
At its heart lies the legendary Tadek Marek-designed V8 engine, extensively developed to deliver significantly more power than the standard unit. Breathing through four 48mm Weber carburettors in place of the standard 42mm units, the engine benefited from enlarged valves and ports, together with revised camshaft profiles. The result was an estimated maximum output of approximately 403bhp, giving the Vantage its formidable performance credentials.
Chassis modifications were relatively modest, with larger ventilated brake discs and low-profile tyres enhancing its capabilities. Visually, however, the Vantage was unmistakable, distinguished by its blocked-off bonnet scoop, blanked air intake, prominent front chin spoiler and discreet boot-lid lip.
This particular example is especially significant, being one of just 131 genuine factory-built X-Pack saloons. This distinguishes it from cars subsequently returned to Newport Pagnell for modification following their original sale and delivery. It is also one of the relatively few examples produced with right-hand drive and an automatic gearbox, making it a particularly interesting and rare specification.
Finished in its original Suffolk Red, complemented by Magnolia hide with contrasting red piping and matching red carpets, this V8 Vantage retains the classic colour combination that so perfectly suits its imposing presence. Having covered approximately 23,700 miles from new and accompanied by a comprehensive history file, it represents a rare opportunity to acquire a highly distinctive example of one of Aston Martins most celebrated models.
