Estimated Price: £30,000 - £35,000

The Alfa Romeo GTV6 occupies a special place in Italian motoring history. Combining Giorgetto Giugiaro's distinctive styling with Giuseppe Busso's celebrated 2.5-litre V6, it offered an engaging blend of performance, handling and character. Introduced in 1980, the GTV6 featured Alfa Romeo's transaxle arrangement, with the gearbox mounted at the rear for improved weight distribution, creating one of the most rewarding sporting coupés of its generation.

First registered on 7th July 1983, this example is finished in Alfa Romeo Red and has been in our vendor's ownership for five years, having been acquired in 2021. The V5C records nine former registered keepers, whilst the odometer indicated 65,505 miles at the time of cataloguing. What makes this GTV6 particularly noteworthy is the extraordinary expenditure devoted to its restoration. Entrusted to respected marque specialists Alex Jupe Motorsport, the car underwent an extensive two-and-a-half-year, nut-and-bolt restoration completed in July 2024 at a fully receipted cost of £138,397, supported by substantial invoices and photographic documentation. The bodywork alone accounted for expenditure exceeding £50,000, involving extensive metalwork repairs, corrosion treatment and refinishing in Alfa Romeo Red (AR530). The underside received similarly comprehensive attention, including repairs, protective stone-chip coating and colour-matched paintwork, whilst the body cavities were wax-treated and new Dynaliner fitted throughout.

Mechanically, the restoration was equally thorough. The Busso V6 benefited from top-end refurbishment, including gas-flow work to the cylinder heads and inlet manifolds, Alex Jupe Motorsport fast-road camshafts and an EB Spares stainless steel exhaust manifold and straight-through centre section. The suspension was comprehensively rebuilt using Alex Jupe Motorsport's fast-road handling package, incorporating replacement springs, dampers and bushes. Further work included gearbox refurbishment, a replacement clutch, short-shift gear linkage, renewed pipework, replacement radiator and upgraded cooling fan system. The braking system received attention, including replacement rear calipers, discs and pads, whilst numerous underside components were refurbished and electroplated. The wheels were refurbished to their original specification, whilst the interior benefited from a replacement headlining and repairs to the existing seats, retaining its period character.

Following completion in July 2024, the car has been used regularly by our vendor. Whilst the earlier history file has been mislaid, the car is accompanied by extensive restoration invoices and photographic documentation detailing the considerable work undertaken. The appropriate registration number, BUS 506C, is included in the sale, whilst the car benefits from an MOT valid until May 2027, issued without advisories.

With the ever-increasing cost of comprehensive restorations, this GTV6 represents a compelling opportunity to acquire a celebrated Italian sporting coupé that has already benefited from extraordinary specialist expenditure, without undertaking the considerable time and financial commitment of a comparable restoration.
